How To Light A Fire In Your Chiminea

January 5, 2017 By Brian - the Chiminea Guy

It is important to use the right method when lighting a fire in your chiminea. This ensures that the fire will burn well, keeping you warm and safe while you relax with friends and family.

You will need a few things to light a fire in your chiminea:

  • Sand for the fire bowl
  • Some simple tinder
  • A few larger pieces of wood

Start by placing about three inches of sand in the bowl of your chiminea, creating a basin for the firewood. The sand will insulate and protect the chiminea from the heat of the fire.

Next, place some tinder on top of the sand. Options include:

  • Shredded paper
  • Small twigs
  • Dry Leaves
  • Self-lighting charcoal

Light the tinder using fireplace matches. Once you have a small flame started, begin feeding small pieces of wood into the bowl.

Chimineas are designed for smaller fires that continue to burn longer with less time spent tending the fire. So, remember to keep your fire small.

Once you have a good fire going, sit back and relax, enjoying the warmth while the chiminea directs the smoke away and leaves you to enjoy the evening.
